Tetiba!
Ya, aku masih lagi ingat suara kawan-kawan yang menunggu, selalunya, "Fadz, bila lagi, bila lagi nak dibukukan, Dr. M pun dah!" (zaman tu Dr. M keluarkan bukunya).
Aku bersabar panjang.
There and there diorang tolak: "Sape mamat ni? Tak pernah dengar pun. Apa kredibilitinya? Sekolah mana??"
Kawan aku dan aku masa tu: "Screw u lah, a@@wipes!"
Here's the ONE reason why i
bother to pay any attention to fadz's writing:
he writes on what he FEELS about a film.
Many if not most self-proclaimed film
critics in Malaysia make misguided attempts at dissecting films
intellectually. they go to great lengths
to make sense of what is essentially an emotional sketch of how the filmmaker
feels about the world around him.
"If you clean it up, get analytical, all the subtle joy and emotion you
felt in the first place goes flying out the window." – Andrew wyeth
How do you make intellectual
sense of someone's feelings?
Fadz, on the other hand, expresses his
feelings randomly, in streams of consciousness that often end up with bursts
of wisdoms. Now THAT I find interesting
and worthy of my attention.
I would even go so far as to suggest
that some of the lecturers in town read fadz's writing regularly. at least it might snap them out of that
delusion that feelings are something you can intellectually dissect.
"In certain kinds of
writing, particularly in art criticism and literary criticism, it is normal to
come across long passages that are almost completely lacking in meaning."
- George Orwell
Fadz gets it. Which is why i only bother to listen to
opinions from him, other than those of my film guru, encik Hassan Mutalib.
Buku ini akan dijual di Pesta Buku Antarabangsa KL 2013, PWTC. RM25. Boleh juga pesan dengan meng e-mel:
